Updated Art 2017

I apologize for the long delay of updates in 2017.  The recovery from surgery took many months. Ruth has been working however furiously on preparing for the fall craft fair at SLHS. Here is a sneak peak at what is new:
  • "Nevertheless, she persisted"- This oil painting was done as part of a summer art class and represents the strength Ruth has shown throughout her struggles. This print has been made into 4x3 magnets and a few journals.
2.  2018 Artwork Calendars will also be available, with some of Ruth's traditional encaustic art as well as some of her oil paintings. She had a lot of fun with birds this year.
We did not order mugs this year due to wanting to have gifts of art that were reasonably priced and having several left over from the previous years.
We look forward to seeing you at the SLHS craft fair November 4 and 5th 2017!

These Encaustic pieces are matted and framed to an 8x10 finished size and are $20 each.

2016 Artwork

The year is half over and I realize that we have not been putting new art on the blog. Ruth continues with her encaustic creations exploring shapes and textured layering. The end product of layered wax is hard to scan well as it is three dimensional and a scan is two dimensional. Here are some of her most recent creations.

A Study in Summer Flowers

It's been a while since Ruth has found a new love in her encaustic art. This season it is playing with flowers.  These bright and whimsical pieces make everyone smile. There are enough to make next year's Artwork by Ruth calendar just with flowers. We are also toying with mounting some as a series on one or two larger pieces of art board.  Stay tuned for more!

New Large Encaustic Prints

Ruth has been busy updating her art supply for up coming art fairs and contests.  The following Encaustics (and more!)are matted 16" x 20" which make them hard to ship but are available for purchase for $40. It's difficult to photograph the large prints and scanning into the computer is not an option! The colors are more vibrant than the photos below, but still show the detail of her strokes.
This one, "Sunset", was entered into the Daniel Smith art contest this past winter:

This one is called "Serenity"

If you would like to purchase please leave a comment below and we will contact you. The purchase now button on the right does not have these sizes. Thanks!

Experimenting with Color and Shapes

Ruth has been working on getting items ready for the fall bazaar. She has been experimenting with some new encaustic colors as well as abstract designs.  Don't worry, for those of you who love her nature scenes, she has plenty of those as well! Here are some note cards and 5x7 pieces of art:
This will be the last month that you can purchase Ruth's art at For Art's Sake, Inc. gallery in Gig Harbor. If you've been meaning to stop in and make a purchase now is the time to do so!

Encaustic Demonstration Bremerton

Ruth was able to do a demonstration of her encaustic art at a retirement community in Bremerton today.  Many of the people living there are artists and part of the local association. Most of them paint using oils and this was a new and exciting art form for them.  They would like Ruth to come back and teach a class this fall. They were very encouraging and many purchased her art.
Thanks to the staff and residents at Cascades of Bremerton for hosting this demonstration today!

New Encaustic

Ruth has been changing up the background paper she uses in her Encaustic art. It almost looks like chalk on a blackboard, but it's wax!

2011 VSA Submission

We submitted Ruth's art for the national VSA competition this weekend. We are so proud of her pieces! These are encaustic prints mounted on wood, and mounted again on 16x16 MDF boards. The first is "Seasons" where she did 9 panels depicting spring to winter, and the second is "Colors", 4 panels in which she did the same scene in monochrome to capture different feelings by color.  (It is so difficult to get the nature of encaustic to photograph well! Because it is wax, using a flash causes a reflection, and without a flash you can't see the detail. )

Playing with Encaustic

Ruth has been working hard at Encaustic getting ready for her art submission next month. She also has been asked to be the featured artist at the monthly "Art Walk" in Gig Harbor for the month of July. The local artist group have an official organization of about 200 artists. They are excited to have her become part of their community. There have been several inquiries into buying her art.
Ruth also had an amateur video made of her doing her art by her classmates in her video production class at school. We will be getting a copy and can't wait to see if it's worthy of sharing with all of you!

Published!

A sample of Ruth's encaustic work was in the school district's spring newspaper this month, front page and in color!
Ruth is back to working on new pieces so hopefully we will get this site up and running.  I still need help with creating pages/buttons if anyone knows how! THANKS!
